Geloso 1100V

This Vintage Friday another gem from microphone history will be presented to you.

We are talking about the Geloso 1100/v piezo electric microphone made in Milan.

Geloso was an electronics manufacturer from Milan, Italy. The founder was Giovanne Geloso.

Giovanne was born in 1901 in Argentina, where his parents were working at the time. After returning to Italy, he followed a nautical course and continued to delve deeper into radio technology for naval purposes. He managed to make several improvements and to patent them. Also he worked on the development of the television tube.

In 1932 he released his first radio under the name Geloso. Later, the rapidly growing company that Geloso had become also started producing microphones. Including today’s hero: the Geloso 1100

The Geloso 1100/v

In the 1950s, Geloso released the 1100/v in a few different versions. There was a version with a volume knob, and a version with an on/off switch. This is the version present in my collection.

The Geloso 1100/v proves that the looks count, a lot of attention was paid to the design of this microphone. That does not mean that this microphone also sounds very nice.

It is a crystal microphone with a frequency range that ends around 10kHz.

At the time they were used for live amplification, but also radio amateurs used this microphone. But this microphone played no significant role in the recording studio.

But let’s be honest, it looks fantastic, doesn’t it?

Next week a new Vintage Friday blog will put another microphone from my collection in the spotlight.

I enjoy your comments.

And, of course, feel free to ask questions!

See you next Vintage Friday!
